Bicycles Outback Presents: "On The Podium!"
Meet Britain!
Britain’s interest in triathlon’s peaked while in his first year of graduate school. The Waco Tribune Herald was running multiple pieces on the history of the race while warning people to beware of cyclists on the road Saturday morning. His training commenced almost immediately after finding a simple "first-timer’s" training routine. The most important part was getting in the pool while the end goal was finishing the race. Somewhere along the line he caught wind of the tri-club in town either through a Google search or a discussion about outdoor activities with Sharron Munisamy and attended his first meeting at the Rosita’s in Hewitt. In spite of an overwhelming feeling "what have I got myself into…" and social intimidation from some pretty crazy stories he gained the confidence he needed for his first race. The end result, he placed 3rd as a Clydesdale and just like that sweet banana pudding his grandmother used to make, he was hooked. Since then he has competed in 3 triathlons (all sprints as a Clydesdale) to date and placed in every one of them. Now he continues shooting for longer distances and faster times, perhaps even a lower racing weight…
Here are some of his firsts:
-Rode his first metric-century 1 year after learning to ride a bike
-Half marathon (Austin) 15 months ago
-Full marathon (San Antonio) 7 months ago (picture above)
-Triathlon 2 years ago @ TriWaco
-HIM This September @ Kerrville
Other Fun Facts:
-Didn’t learn to ride a bicycle until age 19
-Graduate from Austin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry (arts and science, who knew?)
-Switched from baseball to lacrosse in college.
-Prefers whiskey to vodka
-Will drive 596 miles at the end of the day just to sleep in his own bed.
